Since then, I have lost even more fat, gained muscle, and maintained my healthy lifestyle. I have found a passion for fitness, nutrition, exercise and yoga and made it my career. I had a breast lift, reconstruction and augmentation in February 2014 to remove the excess skin on my breasts. How old are you/what grade are you in/where do you live/etc? 

I’m 22 years old, I have completed two years of college (one year of film school, one year of culinary school) and completed a personal training course at ISSA. I live in Illinois, near Chicago.

Where are you from? 

I am originally from New Mexico, I moved from there to Illinois in March 2012.

Why did you move? 

For my boyfriend, Mitch. We met here on tumblr and I moved 1300 miles across the country for him! We’ve had our issues but we’re still going strong <3.

Where do you work?

I currently work at a yoga studio doing front desk/reception (hope to be teaching at some point!), I do personal training on my own, I work at a lingerie store and a plastic surgeons office. I never stop working haha.

How long did it take you to lose the weight? 

It took me around a year to lose the majority of my weight. I am still working on toning all over and losing the last 10-20 pounds. I have been living a healthy lifestyle since January of 2011. 

How much do you weigh/how tall are you?

I currently weigh around 120 pounds (I don’t weigh myself anymore) and I’m 5’1”. UPDATE: Since I had surgery and was out of commission for about a month, and still cannot work out at my full capacity, and as I have also gained muscle - my weight is around 130. Still haven’t weighed myself in about 2 years, but I can tell I have gained a bit. And that’s ok! 

How did you lose the weight?

Why did you want to lose weight? 

Because I knew if I kept going down the path I was going, I would end up like my dad - with diabetes and probably having a heart attack. I didn’t want to be unhealthy anymore.

What’s all this about your mom? 

My mom is a personal trainer and my biggest inspiration. She motivated me to get healthy. I have a page about her on my blog, check out my inspiration page!

Are you still a weight loss blog? 

Yes and no. I do post fitspo, motivational stuff, recipes, etc. and I blog about my progress and answer questions about weight loss - but I also post massive amounts of Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Star Wars, horror movies, etc. Its my blog, take it or leave it.

I weight x amount of pounds and I am x feet-inches tall. Am I skinny/healthy/fat/whatever? 

It depends on how much muscle you have, how active you are, how you eat, etc. You can look at a BMI chart but it isn’t really accurate because it doesn’t take muscle weight into consideration.

How long will it take me to lose x amount of weight?

Healthy weight loss is 5-10 pounds a month. The heavier you are, the more you lose.

How do I lose weight from my stomach/thighs/butt/arms/etc? 

YOU CANNOT SPOT REDUCE FROM ANYWHERE. Clean eating and working out is the only way you will lose fat collectively from all over your body.

How often to you splurge?

Twice a month, I let myself eat whatever I want to eat all day! Usually, I have a kinda healthy breakfast because that’s what I enjoy - so oatmeal or eggs or some such, but for the rest of the day, I go crazy. Pizza, going out to dinner to the Cheesecake Factory, eating Oreos, Ben and Jerry’s Red Velvet ice cream, etc.

How do you break a plateau?

You have to shock your body. Either take a break for a few days and/or kick up your workout intensity hardcore.

How did you get started losing weight? 

I totally changed my diet around 180 degrees. I went from eating like 3000 calories a day of junk food to eating around 1500 of clean, healthy food. And when I first started, I was using an elliptical machine for 30 minutes to an hour a day. I did that for a couple months until I lost 20 pounds and moved onto Insanity. Recently I have been lifting heavy, doing fasted cardio in the mornings, and then more cardio/toning on the elliptical/treadmill and doing bodyweight or free weight exercises.

You’re a personal trainer? How did you get certified? What’s it like?

I am! I got certified through ISSA online, it’s a bit like an online college course. I have a background in nutrition from attending Culinary School, and am working on my Fitness Nutrition certification, my Group Fitness Certification, and I would like to do my Yoga Teacher Training when I can afford it. I hope to have all these done within the year. It’s awesome! I personally chose to do it on my own and not work for a gym as they take a lot of your profits. I don’t recommend becoming a trainer if you’re just in it for the money - only do it if you truly want to help people and have a passion for fitness. 

Have you ever done the 30 Day Shred? 

Yes, and I love it! I highly recommend it for those just starting out. It is difficult but worth it. It is an interval workout that lasts for about 25 minutes a day, and mixes cardio, strength workouts and abs. You need to have handweights to do it, but you can easily substitute full bottles of water or cans of soup if you don’t have weights. I lost like 3 pounds when I did it but if you are heavier and just starting out, you may lose more. 

Have you ever done Insanity? 

Yes, and I SWEAR by it. It is more for people who are at least decently in shape but I believe that anyone can do it if they dedicate themselves and work their hardest. It is the most intense workout I have ever done. It uses Max Interval Training and sheds fat and builds muscle like no other. It is a 60 Day Program and can be purchased at beachbody.com.

Do you use protein powder? 

Currently no. Protein shakes are a good recovery snack after a workout, and any whey or soy protein will do. I usually eat a Quest bar and I use C4 by Cellucor as a pre-workout.

Do you have a MyFitnessPal?

I do but it’s currently private!

Do you have any weight loss tips? 

START A WEIGHT LOSS BLOG. Seriously, that was my biggest motivation. Also, don’t expect it to happen over night! 

Did your boobs get smaller when you lost weight? 

Yes. My boobs went from a 40F to a 32D. I had a breast lift, reconstruction and augmentation on February 20th of 2014! You can see all about my surgery on my ‘surgery’ tab! It cost $10,000 and my doctor is Dr. John Kotis in Arlington Heights!

How many tattoos do you have/what are they of?

I have 8 tattoos - 5 Michael Jackson ones (I’m working on an MJ sleeve on my left arm), a Lady Gaga BTW tattoo (the same unicorn she has in the same place on my left thigh) a Jack Sparrow tattoo on my right arm and a Freddy Krueger tattoo with Robert Englund’s signature on my right thigh. UPDATE: I also got a matching Supernatural anti-posession tattoo with my mom for Mother’s Day 2014 on my right rib cage!

Did your tattoos change after losing weight?

They didn’t warp in a bad way, in fact, I think they look better! They just wrap around my arms more.

Do you have any piercings? 

My ears are stretch to a 00. I used to have a belly button ring but it rejected.

What color is your hair/what hair dye do you use? 

My hair changes a lot. My favorite hair color has been red, but it fades too quickly. I am currently a platinum blonde! To achieve red, I used L’Oreal Hicolor Excellence Magenta.

Did you have stretch marks/did they fade/how did they fade/etc? 

Yes, I had very dark red stretch marks and they faded on their own while I lost weight. I didn’t do anything special to make them go away!

Do you have excess skin/did you do anything to get rid of it? 

Yes, a great amount of it on my breasts which I had surgery to correct, and a pretty decent amount on my stomach. I will hopefully be having a tummy tuck at some point. There is small bits of it everywhere else. If you lose weight healthily and you are relatively young, your skin will generally go back to normal unless you’re losing 60+ pounds.
